House to Give Priority on Medication Bill For 2011

A legislator from Commission IX overseeing health, labor and welfare at the House of Representatives says that the country needs a bill on medication to be included in the National Legislative Program for 2011.

As this bill is not included in the 2010 National Legislative Program, we want to urge fellow legislators at Commission IX to push this bill for inclusion in the 2011 program,” Zuber Safawi from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said as quoted by the House’s official website during a hearing with the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) in Jakarta on Thursday.

Zuber made the remarks in response to a statement from BPOM chairman Kustantinah, who said that the agency needed a stronger legal basis to fully conduct its function.

“We need your full support as legislators for the endorsement of passing the medication bill into law,” Kustantinah said.
